Recognize, translate, and speak supported languages using downloaded resources on the iPhone.
Offline-first translation for iPhone
Hear it, type it, or point your camera. TalkieTalkie is built around on-device translation, with online features clearly labeled before they use a connection.

On-device speechOù se trouve la gare ?
Ready to speakOne app, clear modes
Move between a spoken exchange, a typed phrase, a sign, a translated room, or a travel question without changing tools.
Talk
Recognize, translate, and speak supported languages using downloaded resources on the iPhone.
Text
Translate typed phrases when speaking is awkward, noisy, or private.
Look
Frame a menu—or choose a photo—and translate it on device in full or line by line. Select and deselect any combination of items as you compare them, then show your choice in the menu’s original language to order discreetly without saying it aloud.
Chat
Account-based translated rooms with reporting, blocking, and room-creator moderation.
Ask + Nearby
Ask for local context or discover cited places. Downloaded travel packs can help offline; current place information and live lookups use the internet.
Languages by mode
Talk uses languages with a complete on-device speech path. Text and Look share the wider written-language catalog, including the Belgian French and German choices that are not offered for audio.
Talk
Recognize speech, translate it, and speak the result when the required on-device resources are ready.
Text + Look
Type a phrase, frame printed words, or choose a photo and translate the detected text on device.
Availability can vary by iPhone model, iOS version, and installed Apple language resources. TalkieTalkie shows readiness and download guidance on the device before offline use.
Designed for unreliable connectivity
Core Talk, Text, and Look translation is designed to run locally after the required Apple language resources and TalkieTalkie models are installed.

Speech, text, and camera inputs stay on the iPhone for core translation.
Accounts, Chat, ads, Ask, Nearby, and live place data can require internet access.

Trust by separation
TalkieTalkie does not need to receive core conversation audio, typed translation text, or camera images to translate them.
Microphone, camera, location, Chat, diagnostics, and usage-metric choices are requested for the feature that needs them.
Use guest mode, review advertising choices, manage optional diagnostics, or delete an account from the app.
Research & Insights
Approved research customers can work in a separate analytics environment with documented datasets, a data dictionary, field-level selection, constrained SQL-style queries, and audited exports.
Broad market-research analytics are not enabled by default in version 1. A separately designed stakeholder program may use consented, governed, aggregated signals when its notices, collection settings, and coverage support the agreed question. This is not public access to raw personal conversations or unrestricted user-level data.
Help shape version 1
The iPhone beta is free and ad-supported. Translation quality and language availability depend on your device and installed resources.
