TalkieTalkie Support
Help for internet-free translation services, optional accounts, ads, Ask, and Nearby.
Contact support
Email support@talkietalkie.us. Include the app version, iPhone model, iOS version, selected languages, and the exact wording of any error. Do not email passwords, verification codes, recordings, identity documents, or payment-card details.
Translation help
Why does a language say unavailable?
The selected language may need an Apple language resource or TalkieTalkie model installed on the phone. Connect to Wi-Fi, open TalkieTalkie Settings, review language readiness, and complete any system download offered. Then return to Talk and try a short phrase.
Why was the wrong spoken language detected?
Confirm both language pickers before starting. Speak one complete phrase at a time and reduce overlapping voices or background audio. TalkieTalkie can use recent speaker and language context, but accent, short phrases, names, and similar-sounding languages can remain ambiguous.
Does translation require the internet?
Talk, Text, and Look are designed as internet-free translation services after required resources are installed. Resource downloads, account functions, ads, Ask, Nearby, and current place information can require internet access.
Why is the first phrase missing?
Check that the phone is not muted in a way that affects playback, that TalkieTalkie has microphone and speech-recognition permission, and that another Mac or mirroring session is not taking over the phone microphone. Stop, wait for Ready, and begin again.
Guest and account help
Do I need an account?
No. Core translation is available to guests. Guest-session preferences and recent activity are cleared when the guest session ends or after a cold relaunch. Downloaded offline language or travel packs can remain on the phone. An optional account can retain supported preferences across reinstalls or devices.
Why did my verification email not arrive?
Confirm the address, check spam or junk, wait a few minutes, and request a new verification message in the app. Only the newest unexpired code may work. Never send a verification code to support.
Can Apple or Google sign in to an existing account?
Yes, when the provider uses the same verified email or has already been linked. If Apple Hide My Email supplies a private-relay address, first sign in with the existing method and link Apple from account settings. TalkieTalkie should not create a duplicate account silently.
How do I delete my account?
Use Settings → Account → Delete Account, or follow the verified fallback process on the account-deletion page.
Chat privacy and safety
Why does Chat ask for separate permission?
Chat is online and sends message text and language information through TalkieTalkie's Cloudflare room service to OpenAI for translation and safety moderation. The app names those providers and asks you to agree before it connects. You can cancel and keep using Talk, Text, and Look without Chat, or revoke the permission from Chat to disconnect and require permission again.
How do I report or block someone in Chat?
Press and hold a message or participant and choose Report or Block. Ordinary reports go privately to the room creator, who can remove the message, remove or room-ban a participant, dismiss the report, or escalate it. A block applies across TalkieTalkie Chat rooms. Severe reports, reports about the creator, and user-requested escalations can go to TalkieTalkie Safety. For an urgent safety issue or appeal, email support@talkietalkie.us with the room code and report time, but do not email passwords, verification codes, or sensitive personal information.
Can I share photos or locations in Chat?
Not in build 75. Chat media and location attachments are disabled until TalkieTalkie can moderate those formats safely.
Ask, Nearby, and ads
Can Ask answer about a destination not shown in the picker?
Yes. Type the destination in your question or choose the custom-location option. Ask may use the internet for current or place-specific answers even though translation services remain on-device.
Why does Nearby need location or internet access?
Nearby needs a destination or location to return useful places. Live place identity, map, rating, and availability data comes from online map services. You can deny current location and enter a destination instead.
Can I change advertising privacy choices?
Open TalkieTalkie Settings and choose Advertising Privacy when available. Version 1 does not request Apple's App Tracking Transparency permission and limits Google ad creative to PG or below. Ads can still appear when personalization is declined, and non-personalized ads can still use device or app identifiers for frequency capping, aggregated reporting, fraud prevention, and ad delivery.
How do I report an inappropriate ad?
Open TalkieTalkie Settings → Privacy, Ads & Support and choose Report an Inappropriate Ad. Tell us where the ad appeared and why it was inappropriate or age-inappropriate. Include a screenshot when it is safe to do so. The report is addressed to support@talkietalkie.us.
Optional diagnostics
Support diagnostics are off by default. For a technical problem, sign in and open Settings → Support Diagnostics. Review the explanation and enable diagnostics only if you agree. Once enabled, TalkieTalkie may send event-driven readiness reports, and Send Diagnostics Now sends a current snapshot immediately. Reports can include random app-instance and pseudonymous account identifiers plus a one-way email hash, but are designed not to include conversations, audio, photos, precise location, contacts, device name, or your readable email address. You can turn diagnostics off again at any time.
Safety
Translations and AI-generated travel information can be wrong. Do not rely on TalkieTalkie as the sole source for emergencies, medical instructions, legal rights, immigration, safety-critical directions, allergens, or financial decisions. Contact local emergency services when immediate help is needed.
